Situated between the pensive blue hour and the indulgent golden hour, Purple Hour offers a space to explore films that spark reflection long after the credits roll. Embracing themes of obsession, contemplation, and disorientation, we focus on the canted and the queer, seeking interdisciplinary modes of questioning for works that reject digestion in one sitting.

We feature reviews, interviews, cinematic commentaries, festival dispatches, long-form essays, and personal musings in various expressive forms.

Note: While we acknowledge the fraught history and connotation of the term “queer” that continues to have effects today, we elect to use it as part of our mission as an active reappropriation of the term. We intend for it to refer also to an inclusive, expansive breadth of human experiences in the widest sense possible.
